Ham on Buns

Growing up in dutch West Michigan, ham on buns were present at nearly every function: church potlucks, family gatherings, holiday dinners. I’m not sure why these little sliders are a staple in so many dutch homes around here, but I am hard pressed to find any friend from the area that hasn’t had these at one point or another.

They are easy to make, super affordable, and tasty whether warm or cold. I’ve made these a few times in the past month while I had friends over for football games.

Ham on Buns
3/4 C melted butter
1 1/2 T Dijon mustard
1 1/2 t Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 T poppy seeds (I use Bob’s Red Mill)
1 T dried minced onion
24 King’s Hawaiian rolls
1 lb sliced ham
1 lb sliced swiss cheese

*If you’re bringing these somewhere, use the disposable aluminum foil tins with lids.
Otherwise, use a 9×13 greased pan
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Slice rolls and place ham slice and swiss cheese slice in the sandwich. Place in the greased pan.
Mix all other ingredients in a bowl and pour mixture over buns.
Cover with foil (otherwise the bread will get hard) and bake for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
